How I Work
If you're looking for a holistic hoof care provider who takes the whole horse into account, I may be the right fit for you! The horse will grow & wear hooves that match their nutrition and movement, and assessing all of these pieces is vital.
I take a small clientele, and I mostly serve clients within 15 miles of Burbank. Outside of this range, I take clients on a case by case basis and prioritize referrals (vets, bodyworkers, HCPs, other clients) + an applied travel fee that can be split with barn mates. Horses trained with R+ are always welcome to reach out.
Teamwork
Hoof care is just one piece of the puzzle. I've found that teamwork between the horse's care team--owner included--provides optimal success for performance & soundness. This means that feedback from the vet, bodyworker, osteopath, dentist etc., & vice versa, is encouraged.
Scheduling
I take a proactive approach to hoof care, trimming in 4-6 week cycles. At our appointment, we will schedule the next trim based on the needs of your equine. Appointments can be cancelled or rescheduled at least 24hrs in advance. Payment is issued the same day of the appointment.
Communication
I communicate best via text or email. If your horse encounters a problem or you have any questions, a text message with clear photos & videos will help expedite the help I can provide.
Handling
My handling is gentle but not permissive. I take a LIMA approach (least intrusive, minimally aversive). This means I will not hit, poke, or yell at your horse and I ask you not to while I am there for the sake of safety. If a horse is still struggling to stand during the session, I have experienced repeated success using R+ during trimming for a calm, rewarding, and safe experience for the horse.
Emergencies
Most emergencies need to be handled by a veterinarian first (puncture wounds, stepped on a nail, etc). Please call your veterinarian if your horse is suddenly lame!
